[brus] is a Swedish band hosted on the Shadowplay Electronica label (of our already familiar Marina Sirtis). Actually, [brus] is the personal music vehicle of Andreas Wallgren, who writes & performs everything on this album, and the guy does it really well.. electronic pop songs for the heart..or, from the heart, if you like..
The approach of his writing & performing reminds me of Bill Pritchard (anyone remembers his first wonderfull record?) or Momus, but the obvious influence of [brus] is that great 80's swedish band, Twice A Man..who can blame him for having the right "teachers"?
So, to get to the point..put "rest of man" on your cd player, and see (feel) what happens....
autumn landscapes, sweet melancholy, serene electropop mood, low-fi attitude, retro synths and drum machines..Did i forget anything? ..definitely that superb piano..
The cd contains just 8 songs of a total time running less than half an hour (actually a mini album), with at least 2 songs of exceptional writing intelligence.."elsewhere song" with its beautiful melodic lines & a catchy dance break on the vocoder-ish chorus, & the atmospheric (almost instrumental) "evigheten" where the piano leads the emotions to places that no words would do..
I'm just wondering...in a world of polished synthpop productions & fake attitudes, where do the sensitive & sincere pop songs of [brus] fit?
"..we all love what's about to be forgotten,
we all love what's about to be denied.." -elsewhere song-
hhmmm....still wondering..
